Trace to open New York base
Trace Data Announces US Expansion as Global Data Protection Landscape Evolves
Trace Data, the boutique data protection compliance consultancy, is to open a New York base with the upcoming relocation of founder Sorcha Lorimer to the US. Having won a number of international clients spanning the FMCG, NGO and fintech sectors, US expansion is the next logical move, given how important the interrelation of the US, UK and EU privacy and infosec landscapes has become. A New York base will benefit clients on both sides of the Atlantic and given the dominance of the US tech scene, will provide an invaluable connector point for the Trace network. Further details of how this new chapter will look are below:
What’s happening and when?
Trace’s founder, Sorcha Lorimer, is moving to New York in early Summer this year where she’ll continue as a Director of Trace, working closely with the Trace team.
Will Trace still be based out of the UK?
Yes, our UK and Edinburgh base will continue and the team will continue to serve our clients in the UK (and Europe). We're a proud UK, Scottish founded company. Though we have the Bayes Centre (Edinburgh) as a base, for example, we're a modern, remote-first company able to work globally and across different time zones with ease.
Why expand into the US?
The privacy market is growing globally, and the outlook for the US market will be particularly buoyant. The move allows us to continue to grow in the UK and Europe, sustainably, and share our insights and experience with the North American market, and vice versa. Sorcha will work in the US, UK and remotely, alongside colleagues.
Does this mean Trace is shifting direction?
No, Trace continues to work at the nexus of privacy, data governance, security and ethics. We continue to offer flexible, but expert client services (consulting, training, our managed application) and we wish to continue to have a boutique feel with client-led growth. The move simply gives us a broader, even more global perspective and greater flexibility.
As a Trace customer, will my service be affected?
No, we continue to service existing clients and are organically growing our team to meet the client-led steady growth. Our secure platform will continue to be maintained and managed on Azure by our engineering team, and supported by our expert privacy team.
Will I be able to visit Trace in New York?
Sure! We'll start off with a small base in a WeWork in Manhattan and grow from there. If you're in New York, please contact us, let’s have a coffee!
