Announcing our new European hub in Lisbon

Trace Data, the boutique data protection compliance consultancy, is to open a Lisbon hub with the relocation of founder Sorcha Lorimer. Having won a number of international clients spanning the FMCG, NGO and fintech sectors, the Lisbon expansion follows the Trace trail leading to the US back in 2022.

The Lisbon base offers that all-important footprint in the European Economic Area (EEA) alongside a business friendly timezone which lends itself to serving Trace’s truly global client base.

What’s happening and when?

Trace’s founder, Sorcha Lorimer, is moving to Lisbon in August this year where she’ll continue as a Director of Trace, working closely with the Trace team both in the UK and internationally.

Will Trace still be based out of the UK?

Yes, our UK and Edinburgh base will continue and Wendy Spires, Director of Privacy, and the rest of the team will continue to serve our clients in the UK (and Europe). We're a proud UK, Scottish founded company. Though we have the Bayes Centre (Edinburgh) as a base, for example, we're a modern, remote-first company able to work globally and across different time zones with ease.

Why is Sorcha (the Founder) moving to Lisbon?

The move to beautiful Lisbon (as Sorcha discovered during a DIT trade mission which Trace joined to the city back in 2022) is both a personal and professional one. The privacy market is growing globally, but Europe continues to be the epicentre for legal and regulatory developments. The move allows us to continue to grow in the UK and Europe, while also offering clients in the US and elsewhere a window onto the world’s leading legislatures on privacy through our remote first consultancy. From the Lisbon base, Sorcha will work in the US, UK and remotely, alongside colleagues.

Does this mean Trace is shifting direction?

No, Trace continues to work at the intersection of privacy, data governance, security and ethics. We continue to offer flexible, but expert client services (consulting, training, our managed application) and we wish to continue to have a boutique feel with client-led growth. The move simply gives us a broader, even more global perspective and greater flexibility.

Will my service be affected?

No, we continue to service existing clients with our broad but focussed range of Privacy and Data security consultancy services and are organically growing our team to meet the client-led steady growth. Our secure app will continue to be maintained and managed on Azure by our engineering team, and supported by our expert privacy team.

Will I be able to visit Trace in Lisbon?

Sure! We'll start off with a small hub in a WeWork in Lisbon and grow from there. If you're in Lisbon, please let Sorcha/us know!
